Hello there, my fellow comrades in security and health care. Fancy a good old chin wag about our frequently overlooked friend, telemetry? So, you know the drill, telemetry is all about collecting, transmitting, and measuring data. But here’s the twist, chaps: it appears we’ve got a bit of a blind spot when it comes to cyber attacks.
Let me give it to you straight. Analysis suggests that telemetry logs, our once trusted detective in detecting fishy business, were conspicuously missing in a whopping 42% of documented cyber attacks. Bit naughty, right?
Now, if we venture a little deeper into this dark universe of digital villainy, it appears that these cyber scoundrels aren’t just hoping that we overlook our old chum telemetry. Oh no, they’re far craftier than that. In 82% of cases, these shady characters are deliberately giving telemetry the old heave-ho, disabling it or wiping it completely to cloak their ne’er-do-well activities. The audacity, you may say! Yet, it reminds us ever so bleakly that we must keep our guards up.
Turning to the targets – they’re as diverse as a packet of Liquorice Allsorts. Attacks have hit organisations in 34 countries, across a grand total of six continents. It seems malicious intent knows no borders, my friends! But allow me to dish out another truth bomb here: 83% of these skirmishes seemed to have a taste for smaller prey, befalling organisations with less than a thousand employed souls.
I see it in your eyes, a smattering of surprise perhaps? It goes against the grain, doesn’t it? Surely, you’d think they’d go after the big fish, those with a thousand or more employees. But smaller organisations carry a special allure for these cyber crooks. Perhaps due to perceived vulnerabilities, lack of robust security measures, or simply providing an easy, less guarded entry to larger, interconnected web of entities.
Are you getting the picture, mates? It means we all need to be on the watch, with eyes wide open, appreciating the full worth of our trusty pal, telemetry. Remember, it might be the key to barring the door against these modern-day highwaymen, loosening their grip and preserving the sanctity of our valued institutions.
So then, let’s not lose sight of the fact that telemetry, as dry as it may sound, is more important than ever. It’s time to pull up our socks and keep our digital environments safe from these marauders.
Stay vigilant, lads and lasses. These ‘Here’s Johnny’ moments in cybersecurity are all too real, and telemetry could be the hero that shines the torch on these shadowy activities. Until next time, keep calm and carry on with that cybersecurity! It’s how we keep the bad guys at bay and protect the information that keeps our organisations ticking. Cheers!
