Chinese state-backed threat group Salt Typhoon is compromising major US telecoms firms with its JumbledPath utility, used for network traffic monitoring and data extraction in a cyberespionage campaign. Despite exploiting certain vulnerabilities, the group mostly uses stolen credentials to facilitate initial compromises. It has targeted over 1,000 vulnerable Cisco devices worldwide. Cisco highlighted unconfirmed reports of abuse of three known Cisco vulnerabilities.
