A survey has found that 55% of respondents believe pregnant women should be able to legally obtain an abortion for any reason, marking one of the highest levels of support since the 1970s. The University of Chicago poll also found that 77% of Democrats support unrestricted access to abortion, up from 52% in 2016. Only a third of Republicans agreed with this view, although widespread support was found for access in instances of rape, incest, or when a woman’s health is endangered.
