State-backed hackers have carried out a five-month-long campaign targeting Cisco firewalls to gain access to global government networks. The hackers have exploited two hitherto unidentified vulnerabilities to install previously unseen malware and leave few traceable footprints. Although it is not yet confirmed how the hackers gained initial access to the systems, Cisco has released security updates to patch the vulnerabilities while resolutely urging all users to install them expediently.
