The US Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) revealed a data leak allegedly caused by a Russian ransomware gang, affecting around 330,000 Medicare recipients. The personal data breached included names, social security numbers, medical histories, and financial information. The CMS is contacting potentially impacted individuals and offering free credit monitoring services for 24 months. The breach occurred due to a vulnerability in the MOVEit file transfer service used by Maximus Federal Services, a CMS contractor.
