Brian Conlon, a driver who ran over a sword-wielding man chasing a butcher, was charged with assault to severe injury but was later cleared by a jury. The incident took place in Shotts, Lanarkshire. Conlon feared Paul O’Neill, who was also carrying a bottle of petrol, was about to commit a terror attack. The jury cleared Conlon, recognising his actions as defence of others.
