Human colonic organoids (HCOs) generated from pluripotent stem cells can develop tissue-resident macrophages. These immune cells behave like those found in the human gastrointestinal tract, responding to inflammation and bacteria. The research presents a new method for creating organoid tissues with resident immune cells, potentially serving as models for inflammatory diseases. The study, published in Cell Stem Cell, also provides a foundation for generating other organoid systems with resident immune cells.
