Rhysida ransomware actors target various industry sectors including education, IT, and government, through opportunistic attacks. Detected in May 2023, the threat uses external-facing remote services and double extortion. It has links to another ransomware group, Vice Society. Sophos’ research shows the same group deploying Vice Society switched to Rhysida in June 2023. The ever-evolving ransomware landscape has seen 29 of the 60 active groups starting operations this year due to leaks of previous ransomware operation source codes.
