Australian Privacy Regulator Sues in Data Breach Case

The Australian Information Commissioner filed proceedings against Australian Clinical Labs Limited seeking a civil penalty for the company’s response to a data breach. The case is significant as it’s only the second time the Australian regulator has taken such action and shows a priority in ensuring swift responses to cybersecurity incidents. The maximum penalty in this case will be A$2.2 million as the incident occurred before increased penalties took effect in December 2022.
