Three days after being appointed to run US software group SolarWinds, Sudhakar Ramakrishna was informed of a major malware attack. The attack, blamed on Russia, led to Ramakrishna being quickly appointed to SolarWinds’ board to manage the crisis. Despite the intensity of the situation, Ramakrishna emphasised the importance of CEOs treating cyber attacks as a strategic issue, and as an opportunity for business improvement. Ramakrishna also stressed the need for a “bias to transparency”, and collaboration to reduce future threat likelihood.
