Attackers Exploit Cryptographic Keys for Malware Deployment

Microsoft’s threat intelligence team identified 3,000 exposed cryptographic keys that put web applications at risk of code injection attacks. The attackers could use these keys to manipulate authentication tokens and inject harmful code into vulnerable web servers. Microsoft recommended regular key rotation and avoiding the use of keys copied from public sources. Exposed keys are considered a higher risk than stolen keys due to their wide accessibility in code repositories.
