Sir Patrick Vallance, the UK’s chief scientist, detailed a struggle within the government over the initiation of the first and second lockdowns. The chief scientist said Chancellor Rishi Sunak was sceptical of the lockdowns due to economic concerns. Vallance further claims that the Treasury didn’t seek scientific advice before launching the “Eat Out to Help Out Scheme”, which increased transmission risk.
