New ‘Octo’ malware tricks Android users into giving up bank details

Netsafe has warned that New Zealanders could have fallen victim to a piece of malware which has already affected customers from 15 banks in Australia. Octo tricks Android phone users into sharing their bank account details by using fake login screens. It also shuts down victims’ phones. Netsafe’s chief online safety officer has said that people should be careful when downloading apps from the Google Play store and when granting permissions for these apps.
