New York moves toward cybersecurity regulations for hospitals, paving way for other states

New York Governor Kathy Hochul has proposed new cybersecurity regulations requiring hospitals to have written security procedures, response plans for cyberattacks, and policies for notifying individuals affected by breaches. Additionally, $500 million in state funds is being made available to hospitals for upgrading their cybersecurity measures. If approved, hospitals will have one year to comply with the regulations. The proposal follows an increase in health data breaches in the state.
