A data theft at medical transcription firm Perry Johnson & Associates (PJ&A) has affected about nine million people, including at least 3.9 million Northwell Health patients and 1.2 million Cook County Health patients. The sensitive information compromised includes patient names, birthdates, addresses, medical records, admission diagnoses, and, for some individuals, social security numbers and insurance information. The incident marks the second largest health data breach in 2023.
