Zero-Day Attack Hits Cybersecurity Leader

The MITRE Corporation, a contributor to public interest cybersecurity, disclosed a data breach originating from a state-backed hack. Detected after suspicous activity was noticed on their Networked Experimentation, Research, and Virtualization Environment (NERVE), MITRE took the network offline and launched an investigation. The compromise involved two Ivanti VPN zero-days. MITRE emphasized the necessity of advanced cybersecurity solutions to combat increasing threats and outlined four main recommendations for defense. The exposure was attributed to advanced persistent threat UNC5221, reportedly sponsored by the Chinese state.
