US Senator Ron Wyden has disclosed that the National Security Agency (NSA) bought American internet users’ records, with the information being illegally procured by data brokers. Wyden has called for a stop to intelligence agencies buying such data and seeks a policy requiring that such data purchases meet legal standards set by the Federal Trade Commission. He pointed out that this practice allows the government to undermine Fourth Amendment protections.
