Cybersecurity researchers have found hackers using the MSIX Windows app package to spread malware. The malware, disguised as popular software like Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge, uses compromised websites, SEO poisoning, and social media for distribution. The malware ultimately allows for remote access, data exfiltration and code execution. Security company Elastic’s endpoint security solution, Elastic Defend, is able to detect this threat. It is unclear how many companies have been affected by this issue.
