North Carolina-based Pairwise, a company specialising in gene editing, has partnered with agricultural giant Bayer to commercialise its CRISPR-edited ‘Conscious Greens’ food range. The company’s first product was mustard greens with the bitter taste removed. Despite there being widespread hostility towards genetically modified foods, Pairwise has found that fewer than 1% of test customers voiced concerns about the gene-editing process. Other products in the pipeline include pit-less cherries, seedless blackberries and mini pit-less mangoes.
