New Zealand’s Te Whatu Ora is seeking to limit the number of ICT systems in healthcare and enhance data and technology capabilities. Addressing a “patchwork” of over 4,000 varied quality systems, the agency plans to move to fewer, more robust platforms and bring systems to the cloud for cost-effective resilience. It also aims to standardise and automate national data collection to reduce cyber risks and unify health information. This aligns with the interim Te Pae Tata New Zealand Health Plan 2022’s focus on digital tool uptake.
Fred Hutch notifies more patients of November 2023 attack
In December 2023, a cyberattack hit the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (Fred Hutch), resulting in the exfiltration of patient data and attempted extortion. Threat actors,
