Why Are Healthcare Data Breaches So Expensive?

Healthcare data breaches are extremely costly due to the complexity and volume of health data and the heavily regulated nature of the industry. Health data is hard to protect, complicated to detect a breach, and expensive to comply with regulations after a breach. According to IBM, the average cost of a healthcare data breach rose to $11 million in 2023, up 53% since 2020. To reduce costs, healthcare organizations need to focus on prevention and detection, encourage interdepartmental collaboration, and leverage technology such as AI.
