White House Issues First-of-its-Kind Executive Order on AI | Vinson & Elkins LLP

President Biden’s Executive Order issued in 2023 has increased the U.S. government’s engagement with AI across industries, addressing issues such as energy, national security, healthcare, labor concerns, discrimination, cybersecurity, data privacy implications, intellectual property and competition. Called for greater regulation and cooperation, the order directs various departments to develop standards, best practices, and programs to optimize beneficial AI applications, tackle risks, and curb misuse. While promising growth opportunities, this also implies complex compliance challenges for relevant organizations.
