Rising costs associated with data breaches drive impacts on consumers, says IBM research. A 10% increase this year has pushed the average business disruption and remediation cost to $4.88m, but instead of bolstering data breach prevention efforts many of the organisations surveyed pass these costs onto customers. Additionally, the average data breach recovery time is 100 to 150 days at least, creating a long-term recovery period.
