The PixPirate malware’s downloader is a key component, running and sending commands to the droppee (malware application). The malware has been spreading in Brazil via methods such as Smishing campaigns and WhatsApp spam messages, resulting in victims unknowingly installing it. Trusteer labs has also detected an expansion of the malware into India, Italy and Mexico. Its key spreading technique is via WhatsApp, sending phishing messages from the victim’s account to their contacts. The malware’s capabilities include stealing data, recording user activities and spreading to other devices.
