The SamSam ransomware attacks have been increasing in the healthcare sector since January 11th. Allscripts, an EHR vendor, was recently hit by the ransomware. The virus spreads through weak passwords, open RDP connections, and brute force attacks. The attackers scan the internet for vulnerable networks and once they gain access, the virus spreads throughout the network. It is important for healthcare security leaders to understand how the virus gets in to prevent falling victim.
