What is triple extortion ransomware?

Triple extortion ransomware is a growing cybersecurity threat where cybercriminals extort victims multiple times by encrypting data, exfiltrating data for exposure, and threatening a third attack. The attacker’s goal is to compel victims to pay multiple ransoms through additional threats. This method, which is becoming more common, adds extra risks beyond just blocking access to data. Notable ransomware groups engaging in triple extortion include AvosLocker, BlackCat, Hive, Vice Society and Quantum.
