What is IPsec (Internet Protocol Security)?

IPsec protocols secure data transmitted over the internet, including VPNs, financial transactions, and sensitive corporate communications. They work by authenticating and encrypting IP network packets, preventing unauthorized access. Internet Key Exchange (IKE) negotiates security associations, providing encryption and decryption keys for data transmission. Although alternative security protocols exist, IPsec’s ability to secure entire networks makes it ideal for safeguarding VPNs and cloud communications.
