A sophisticated version of Banshee Stealer malware has been secretly targeting macOS users for months, undetected while stealing personal data. The malware was first surfaced in mid-2024 and was sold as a “stealer-as-a-service” on cybercriminal forums. The latest version uses advanced evasion techniques to avoid antivirus systems. Banshee works silently, stealing data, using deceptive prompts, evading detection, and exporting stolen data using encrypted files. The source code was released in November 2024, allowing for antivirus companies to study its technique, but also for hackers to adapt and evolve their methods.
