What is an endpoint protection platform (EPP)?

An Endpoint Protection Platform (EPP) is a security technology that protects devices, or “endpoints”, within a network. EPPs consolidate security components to deliver efficient threat detection, response, and monitoring. The platforms are crucial in protecting sensitive data and meeting regulatory compliance. Effectiveness is ensured by capabilities such as threat prevention, centralized management, automation, and integration with other security systems. EPPs also provide user-focused security education to mitigate human error. Their function differs from Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) systems, focusing on preventing known cyber threats, rather than the continuous monitoring and proactive response of EDRs.
