A Russian criminal group named Qilin has stolen approximately 400GB of sensitive NHS patient data from Synnovis, a joint venture company providing pathology services such as blood tests. The data includes results of cancer and HIV tests dating back several years, relating to around 300 million patient interactions with the NHS. The group’s action suggests Synnovis has refused to pay a ransom. The NHS, alongside cybersecurity experts, is investigating the extent of the breach.
