Webhook security: Risks and best practices for mitigation

Webhooks, which power a variety of digital platforms, are not inherently secure, with potential vulnerabilities including replay attacks, server-side request forgery, man-in-the-middle attacks, and distributed denial-of-service attacks. To protect these systems, experts suggest encrypting data using HTTPS, avoiding transmitting sensitive data, authenticating sources and consumers, signing webhooks to verify messages, and sending timestamped messages. Continuous monitoring, health checks, and performance metrics are also recommended to ensure resilience against security threats.
