Watchdog reprimands Labour following data protection breach

The UK’s Labour Party was reprimanded by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) following over 150 complaints about mishandling of personal data inquiries, or Subject Access Requests (SARs), after a cyber attack. An investigation found an email inbox with hundreds of unresponded requests was unmonitored for 12 months. Although Labour has now cleared the backlog and implemented measures for prompt responses, nearly 80% of 352 SARs were not answered within the statutorily-required three months.
