Victims charity calls for changes after police data breach

UK police accidentally released personal details of 1,230 crime victims and witnesses, including sexual and domestic assault cases. Authorities stated the data, distributed in responses to journalists’ Freedom of Information requests for crime statistics, comprised identifiable information relating to a variety of crime types. The police have apologised for the breach, while the Information Commissioner’s Office is investigating the matter. Authorities are contacting those affected.
