VA’s use of Yammer made for PHI, data security risk

A report by the VA Office of Inspector General states that the Department of Veterans Affairs has been using an unsecured web-based communication platform called Yammer, which puts protected health information at risk. The report identified several security vulnerabilities and malfunctions associated with the platform. The report recommends that the platform be evaluated and that employees be made aware of approved and unapproved platforms.
