Valve’s 2FA Mandate for Game Developers Shows SMS Stickiness

Valve, the game maker, will start requiring independent developers on its Steam game-distribution platform to provide their phone numbers for two-factor authentication. This follows a series of attacks on these developers. However, there are concerns about the security of SMS-based two-factor authentication, as it can be bypassed by persistent attackers. Despite this, Valve and other companies continue to use this protocol as it’s relatively easy for end users and can still provide some level of security.
