Mass General Brigham researchers found a hybrid approach of using generative artificial intelligence (AI), such as OpenAI’s GPT-4 and Google’s Gemini 1.5, and the DXplain diagnostic decision support system (DDSS) to diagnose patients effectively increases accuracy. During a year-long study, the DDSS presented the differential diagnosis more regularly and performed better with data entry of all laboratory test results. Thus, pairing an AI and the DDSS is seen as the optimal way forward.
