The increasing prevalence of cybercrime in Karnataka, particularly Bengaluru, is causing the area to shift reputation from the ‘Silicon Valley of India’ to the ‘Cybercrime Capital of India’. Cases escalated to 12,615 by September 2022, resulting in a loss of Rs 470 crore. The state Home Minister has called for a comprehensive cyber policy to tackle this issue. Crimes range from financial fraud and data breaches to sextortion and AEPS fraud.
