US Sanctions Chinese Cybersecurity Firm for Hacking 81K Firewall Devices

The US Treasury Department has sanctioned Chinese cybersecurity firm Sichuan Silence Information Technology and its employee, Guan Tianfeng, for allegedly distributing malware to around 81,000 firewalls worldwide in 2020. More than 23,000 of these firewalls were in the US. The department has prohibited US businesses from any transactions with the named parties, essentially blocking them from Western banks and suppliers.
