US government security officials have advised Americans to use encrypted messaging in response to a suspected Chinese hacking group, Salt Typhoon, infiltrating telecoms networks. Companies including Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Lumen may have had their systems breached, possibly allowing hackers access to wiretap communications. The US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, National Security Agency, and the FBI, urged telecoms providers to bolster their security.
