US homicide rates continue to fall

Homicide rates in the US fell almost 16% in 2024, according to a news report. The decline, happening six months after Surgeon General Vivek Murphy declared gun violence a public health issue, was attributed to firearm legislation and community-based initiatives. Major cities reported significant drops, with the largest in Philadelphia at 40%. The report emphasized gun violence as a public health concern, not a political issue.
