US charges developer of LockBit ransomware group

Rostislav Panev, an alleged developer of the notorious LockBit ransomware group, has been charged by US authorities. Panev, who holds dual Russian and Israeli citizenship, was arrested in Israel in August at the US’s request. He is accused of developing and maintaining the malware used by LockBit, which, according to the FBI, has caused billions of dollars of damage globally. Several others alleged to be involved in the group, including its suspected mastermind Dmitry Yuryevich Khoroshev, have also been charged.
