US bill would set standards for healthcare cybersecurity

U.S. lawmakers have introduced the Health Infrastructure Security and Accountability Act to set mandatory cybersecurity standards for healthcare organizations. Sponsored by Senators Ron Wyden and Mark Warner, the bill aims to address weak cybersecurity practices in healthcare, require annual audits, and enforce stronger penalties for non-compliance. It also provides $1.3 billion in federal funding to improve cybersecurity defenses, especially in hospitals.
