A major cyber incident was declared at the Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Trust, forcing the cancellation of appointments. The digital systems storing records were compromised causing all work to be done manually. Efforts are underway to rectify the situation, and ‘business continuity processes’ are in place. Maternity services are continuing as normal. The ‘cyber attack’ adds to pressures the hospital is already facing due to budget overruns and growing care needs.
