Up-and-coming ransomware group Anubis has tweaked its malware to irrevocably wipe victims’ data

Ransomware group Anubis has now introduced a file-nuking feature to its malware, going against the typical ransomware model of restoring data for a ransom. The group, thought to be ex-ransomware affiliate members, uploads malware into victims’ systems, exfiltrates data and threatens its public release. Now its malware will irrevocably erase data, causing speculation as to what real leverage this provides for ransom negotiations.
