University of Michigan wants cyber negligence lawsuit dismissed

The University of Michigan is facing two lawsuits over a 2023 cyber attack, which exposed the personal information of more than 200,000 people. Both suits argue that the university failed to implement adequate security measures. The university has filed a motion to dismiss one of the cases, claiming that data breaches are possible and it is protected as a state agency engaged in governmental functions.
