Universal Flu Vaccine May No Longer Be a Long Shot

A Duke University team working for over five years on a universal flu vaccine has developed an approach involving antibodies targeting both the head and stalk of the influenza virus. The team found in trials with mice and ferrets vaccinated with their experimental mixture that there was increased production of antibodies against conserved stalk regions. The team is now investigating how the approach could be applied to all influenza subtypes.
