UnitedHealth says data of 100 million stolen in Change Healthcare breach

UnitedHealth has confirmed that over 100 million people were impacted in the Change Healthcare ransomware attack, marking the largest healthcare data breach in recent years. The company had to pay a ransom demand of $22 million, but despite this, the ransomware operation reportedly retained some of the stolen data. The attack and subsequent fallout caused expected losses of $2.45 billion for UnitedHealth as of September 2024.
