UnitedHealth says Change hackers stole health data on ‘substantial proportion of people in America’

UnitedHealth Group, the health insurance giant, confirmed a ransomware attack on its subsidiary Change Healthcare which led to a massive theft of Americans’ private healthcare data. The company did not disclose the number of people affected but noted that the review of the situation could take several months. The data breach was carried out by a hacking group called ‘RansomHub’ and UnitedHealth confirmed that a ransom was paid to protect patient data from public disclosure.
