UnitedHealth now says 190 million impacted by 2024 data breach

UnitedHealth announced that 190 million Americans had their personal and health data stolen in a ransomware attack on its subsidiary, Change Healthcare. The figure, almost double the initial estimate, represents the largest healthcare data breach in US history. Despite a $22 million ransom, the attackers didn’t delete the stolen data and later demanded more payment. The breach has cost UnitedHealth a projected $2.45 billion.
