UnitedHealth Group admits to paying ransom after Change Healthcare cyber attack

UnitedHealth Group paid a $22m Bitcoin ransom to prevent the further spread of sensitive patient data stolen in a cyberattack affecting its subsidiary, Change Healthcare. The insurers estimated that the breach has already cost $872 million this quarter alone and may end up costing up to $1.6 billion due to potential future attacks and data breaches. The intrusion resulted in the company shares falling by nearly 15%.
